FAQ

Q. What should I wear?

A. You should wear clean sports clothing: Gym shorts or leggins, a t-shirt (tight figging for grappling and MMA), no jewlerly/watches on the mat and peircings that can’t be removed must be taped. You will be barefoot, so please ensure all finger and toenails are clipped short and sharp edges removed.

Q. Are your classes beginner friendly?

A. Yes, beginners are welcome in all lessons, no previous martial arts experience is necessary.  all members of the team are more than happy to help you get started and grow in the sport.

Q. Do I need any specialist equipment?

A. We do have equipment that you are more than welcome to use (boxing gloves and shin guards). However, it is better to buy your own equipment as you progress. 16oz boxing gloves, MMA gloves, shin guards, groin guard and a mouth guard are worth getting. if you begin competing, you will need a rash guard and MMA/BJJ shorts. I can advise you on all the kit you may need and where to get it.

Q. Do I have to buy your branded training kit?

A. No, we don’t require students to train in club branded equipment. We do have it, it is up to you if you would like to buy and wear it. Ultimately, wear what you think is the best kit for you!

Q. Do you have toilets and showers?

A. Yes, there is a shower on site and toilets. You should shower before you come to class and it is advisable to shower as soon as you can after class to prevent bacterial infections.

Q. Do I have to compete?

A. No, you don’t have to compete, it is not a requirement for training. Although we have competition minded students, most of our students are not here to compete.

Q. Do you do gradings?

A. In MMA and Muay Thai, there is no “grading” system, however, the English Mixed Martial Arts Association (EMMAA) and the International Mixed Martial Arts Federeation (IMMAF) do have a grading system for MMA youth competition. Should your child wish to compete under IMMAF tournaments, they will follow that system. Further to that, Brazillian Jiujitsu (BJJ) does have a grading system and our NoGi classes will follow that belting system (White, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black). There are no official “gradings”, belts and stripes are earned over time and through demonstration of techniques in live sparring or ‘rolling’. You do not have to pay a fee to recive a grading, they are earned through skill and hard work.

Q. Are you DBS checked?

A. Yes, we hold enhanced DBS checks due to working with under 18’s. We are also fully insured.

Q. Can I bring a friend?

A. Of course, it’s a good idea to train with a friend, many of our students came as groups of friends or came once and then brought their friends at a later date.
